How will this piece occupy space in a room? How will it be interacted with? What proportions should be considered? The design of the Petit Rond Chair came to life through asking these thoughtful questions, among many others. Designed with architectural and human considerations in mind through a discursive process, it strikes a welcome balance between character and function in its petite, stackable form.

Stainless Steel / Leather SeatTrue to its name—“small circle” in French—the Petit Rond Series is composed of lightweight, straightforward geometrical shapes that bring simplicity to any interior. In brushed stainless steel, Petit Rond even offers ease of use outdoors, and introduces a level of comfort that exceeds the expectations for its small size and metal frame. With personality in its shape, its final form is easy to maneuver and doesn’t take up much space.
Given its uncommonly slim profile and circular seat, Petit Rond Chairs and Stools are well suited to be placed in cafés, restaurants, workplaces, homes, and settings where flexibility is essential—in any square footage. Easy to handle and made of stainless steel, the chair (without its leather seat) is happy to be used outdoors as well as in, for the spring and summer seasons.
Along with its metal fabrication allowing for movement between indoors and out, its stackable nature means that very little storage space is necessary for added seasonal seating. In settings where casual dining is a priority, Petit Rond Chairs and Stools offer the ability to adjust seating supply with ease. In office settings, this same ability can be an asset: its functional design with clean, minimal lines and small form allow a respectable aesthetic with a lightweight touch. Lightweight, small, and stackable, Petit Rond is the first seat to reach for, whether in Stool or Chair form.
The series’ spatial and human considerations come from the architect and designer Troels Grum-Schwensen—a commitment to finding points of balance between character and function, rather than making compromises for one or the other. At its origin, the first iteration of the chair was designed by Troels to be used in a café and gallery space in an old sugar factory in Stege, on the island of Møn in south-eastern Denmark, where a clear contrast between the raw, worn walls and the bright, slim all-steel-chair was an essential intention.
The process with FRAMA began following a visit to Grumdesign-studio—the chair’s character and practicality an immediate commonality between the FRAMA design philosophy and Grum-Schwensen’s approach. With this shared ethos clear, the product-finishing-process was a congruous one focused on simplicity and utility.
Petit Rond Chair and Stool are almost human in their familiar forms, and offer an unexpected comfort for their size and material. When seated, one of the most noticeable qualities is that the back and seat of the chair are carefully placed and gently supple and responsive to the body to provide essential support while maintaining the slimmest profile possible—this new addition to FRAMA’s seating universe creates a lot from a little.
