Barabba
At the Copenhagen restaurant Barabba, design by FRAMA emerged as the answer to a challenge: how to maintain a space beloved by its guests, but evolve its interior to better match what it had grown into over ten years of service.
Originally, the young, punk aesthetic of the space better matched the mood of the restaurant’s offerings. But a decade into a beloved institution and restauranteur Ricardo Marcon felt it was no longer representing the grown up, intimate Barabba experience.
Marcon gave a generous amount of trust to FRAMA Projects, and with custom tables, benches, and shelves; and careful attention to preserving the interior trademarks of the space, it was evolved to be cleaner without losing its youthful identity. Old photographs that adorned the walls were kept; but reframed in subtle, minimal wood frames. Turquoise chandeliers were preserved.
Every custom FRAMA addition now balances these eclectic elements. Wood panels, glass walls, and a metal bar offer visual calm and clarity across the space. Custom pendant lamps light the space, and custom tables and benches reframe how guests sit in the space entirely. Formerly, the unusually-shaped space was filled with one long table. Now, smaller tables and many booths invite guests to experience the intimacy of the larger space to its fullest.
