The Sink Theory
An exploration of the architectural connection between FRAMA’s most essential hand care and the spaces it inhabits. Where material, architecture, and routine intersect.
At FRAMA, design is meant for living. Every collection begins with a fundamental need—shaped by the everyday connections between body, object, and space. With FRAMA Essentials, a selection of necessities for any interior is defined.
FRAMA Care is developed to introduce ease into daily life—products that nourish the body while turning routine into ritual. With that in mind, the Sink Theory emerges as an exploration of the architectural connection between FRAMA’s most essential hand care and the spaces it inhabits.
Launched in 2016, Apothecary was FRAMA’s first self care scent, followed by Herbarium. Developed and produced between Denmark and Italy, the collection is made with natural ingredients and high-quality essential oils. Beyond their sensory qualities, the products are designed as objects with permanence—bridging space and scent, and aligning with the same ethos as FRAMA’s physical design objects.
Beyond its sensory architecture, the containers of our hand care are an extension of the FRAMA interior at the edge of any sink.
Now, the Sink Theory explores the architectural connection between FRAMA’s most essential hand care and the spaces they inhabit. The sink, one of the most frequented points within any interior, is where material, architecture, and routine coalesce. Through images captured over several years from around the world, as we’ve continued to consider the spatial implications of our most unassuming product, we relate the Apothecary and Herbarium scents in FRAMA’s hand care collection to spaces that inspired their making. Through these images, we see FRAMA Hand Care lay the groundwork again and again for sensory connection every day.
From the natural drama and muted tones of a marble bathroom interior, to the stainless steel tub of an industrial kitchen sink, the connection between this interior node with the body and with the space it sits in is undeniable. With routine, the hands interact with this structure multiple times a day—and in using hand care, introduces scent into its surrounding air space. Through the movement of water and Apothecary or Herbarium Hand Wash, scent becomes spatial: scaling scent from an intimate care ritual into an architectural framework. Making the cerebral corporeal, and the ephemeral tangible, through a simple daily gesture.
To encourage making this part of a lasting routine, consider keeping a pairing of Hand Wash and Cream at your most-used sink to lock in the hydration and the scent of the hand care ritual—or installing wall mounts for ease of use. Whether your sink is indoors or out, cluttered or calm, stainless steel or tonal stone, Apothecary and Herbarium hand care introduce a new spatial element that defines a moment of routine as well as the space that surrounds it. A natural extension of any considered interior.
